Pembroke Pines, encompassing an area of 34.97 square miles, is a city located in the southern area of Broward County, Florida. The city, which is the second most populous in the county and the eleventh most populous in Florida is home to over 168,000 people. The city was formerly an agricultural community with several dairy farms until builders contested its incorporation and then the area was developed. The population of Pembroke Pines rapidly grew in the 90s as a result of the 1992 hurricane Andrew, and in 1999, the city was ranked 3rd on a list of fastest growing cities in the U.S.
